After the SADC Youth Parliament held in Durban, South Africa, from 13-17 May 2001, the consultative meeting gave rise to what is the SADC Youth movement, established with the following objectives and aims:

 

Ø      To provide platform for young people to engage in constructive dialogue and share experiences with regard to youth development in the SADC Region.

Ø      To do advocacy and lobbying on policy formulation process in all SADC countries

Ø      To raise awareness on the legislative process in democracy and governance with reference to new deferment of the African continent

Ø      To lobby for establishment of the SADC Youth chapters and contribute to the process of peace building and conflict transformation in the region

 

 

 

The Plan of Action for the period 2003-2006 aims at strengthening the role of young people in the effort to create social change and is summarised into four categories:

1.  Organizational Structure and Capacity building

2.  Training, Networking and Education

3.  Systematic advocacy and lobbying

4.  Research and policy

 

 

The following programmes have been planned for the period 2003-2006:

 

Ø      SADC Youth Parliament focussing on :

  • Trade Investment Summit
  • NEPAD Publicity/AU

Ø      Human Rights, Democracy Awareness Conferences and Summits ;Conflict Resolution and Transformation Skills Training Programme in DRC/Rwanda

 

Ø      HIV/AIDS and Reproductive Health Programme

 

Ø      Regional General Council
